CREATE 3D MAPPING

Creating a 3D map is easy and fun. Review the instructions below then push the Launch Software button to begin creating your piece of the world.

You create a 3D model with web based designer software. Clicking the Launch Software Image below downloads and starts the designer on your computer. Follow the simple instructions below to select and print your piece of the world. Please print this page or keep it open so you can refer to it as you work.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at maps@anvilprototype.com or call 704-527-8171.

If you would like someone to walk you through the process in person and see some physical examples, feel free to visit our friends at The Map Shop at 1500 East Morehead St in Charlotte, NC.

Detailed Instructions:

 1. Click "Launch Design Software" below to download and run the Designer software on your computer. You'll be asked whether you trust 3D Outlook Corporation and Sun Microsystems to install the needed software. Select "Trust" if you agree.
 2. Use the Where to Go? box and the mouse to travel to your destination. Turn the globe with the left mouse button. Tilt it with the right mouse button. Zoom with the mouse scroll wheel.
 3.  Choose imagery from the left panel. The top imagery is best for large areas, the middle for other areas. You can choose topographic imagery for the United States. Topographic imagery is only visible when zoomed in close.
4.  Exaggerate the terrain if you like, using the sliding control on the right panel.  We have found that the larger the map area, the more exaggeration is required.  For small areas, 1-2x is preferred, for areas the size of counties, 2x is usually appropriate, for areas the size of states, 3x is often appropriate.  Use the middle mouse button to tilt the view to check the exaggeration settings.
 5.  Press the Select Print Area button to turn on the selection box. Press the left mouse button at the upper left corner of your chosen area, then drag the mouse to the lower right corner. You can then move or resize the selection rectangle.
 6. Push the 3D Print button at the top left of the window. In a few moments you'll be shown a preview of your Anvil 3D Map model. You can use the mouse and mouse wheel to turn it and zoom in close. If you want to print it, select Buy Now! to open the shopping cart.
